My thoughts per track on One Direction's new album Made in the AM

The much anticipated album of the 4-piece One Direction is now ours to listen to. I have pointed out my opinions track by track below but over all I think that this is definitely the best album they've ever come up with. I know there's a missing voice but I've never really noticed any difference at all.

This album is a collection of diverse sound from soothing piano ballads to catchy bop love songs. It is definitely the most matured One Direction sound compared to their previous records. After streaming the album, I feel like they still need to explore more in terms of their musical creativity although I think this one's enough to show off that they've finally grown up.

I understand that this album was made for the pleasing of their fans but I want the general public not see them anymore as those 17 year old boys jumping and goofing around by the beach singing What Makes You Beautiful. They need to capitalize on something new in order for them to gain the public's pleasing. With this record, I feel like they're slowly but surely getting there.

I hope with this record, people wouldn't discard a song just because it's by One Direction. To give you a clear view of what Made in the AM has in store for us, below are my opinions track by track. ;)

Hey Angel
8/10
This song is a good choice as the first track from the album. It has that introductory vibes that welcomed the whole fandom to a brand new era. It starts with a 30-second feel good beat before Harry's soft voice comes to bless our ears with the lyrics that go "Hey Angel, Do you know the reasons why we look up at the sky?" After the chorus that was probably sang by Louis a series of wohos leads to the second verse with another Hey Angel liner.

To be honest my favorite part in this song was the wohos. I think it's something unique that this song wants us to remember.

Drag Me Down
8.5/10
We're all familiar that Drag Me Down was the hit lead single from the album. I personally think that this track deviates from their sugarcoated boyband sound from their previous records. From the domination of electric guitar tunes to the drop beat after Niall's first verse that leads to Louis'  "Nobody, Nobody", it's crystal clear that One Direction is up for a more mature sound in this new record.

I'm happy that the boys had a fair share of lines in this track. It might have sound a little different when I first heard it (bc there's no more Zayn Malik), but it's quite impressive how they sounded so strong and intact in this track. The lyrics also showcased a much stronger One Direction despite missing one member of the group.

Perfect
10/10
The title itself is a perfect description for this third track and second single from the album. Although I feel like Louis sounded a bit auto-tuned in the first verse, the lyrics of his part made me forget it and just look at the brighter side.

Honestly, I am more into the lyrics of this song. From the first verse to the bridge, it was so beautifully-written. I'm clearly caught off guard with Harry and Louis' song-writing skills. The chorus that has the touch of Taylor Swift's Style on it was upbeat and catchy.  I personally think though that the chorus sounded a bit like a pre-chorus, but it's not a big deal at all.

The lyrics "If you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms, if you like having secret little rendezvous..." really got me. It sounds so brave and reckless. I feel like it's the kind of young love that I would've actually dreamed of if I was ever so into someone. (BUT I WAS NEVER INTO SOMEONE AND NO ONE WAS EVER INTO ME). I also loved how Harry Styles pronounced 'rendezvous'.

Infinity
8.5/10
Apparently this song started with Niall Horan's raspy tranquil voice with a mix of saturated buzz electric guitar tune that sustains up until the pre-chorus. I feel like whenever Niall sings the first verse of any of their songs, he just slays it. His voice perfectly suits first verses and bridges.

Again, I'm more into the lyrics of this song. Harry Styles has no doubt impressed me with his repetitive infinity high notes at the latter part of the chorus. However, I feel like it has this eccentric vibes that could literally put me to sleep. I also don't like the EDM vibes it has on the latter part. I feel like it's not just right to put that kind of sound in this very dramatic, beautifully-written song. If this has a stripped version I would most definitely prefer it.

But I love the poetry on this song. It's actually the kind of song that you would love not because it has a funky, upbeat or pop rock vibes. It's the kind of song that would definitely never go out of your system because of its nice lyrics.

End of the Day
7/10
I'm definitely in love with the first verse of this song lyrically and musically wise. I find the chorus good as well, lyrically and musically wise. I'm just bothered with the weird drum beat transition from first verse to chorus. I love the beat that sounds like snap on the latter part of the chorus.

If I Could Fly
10/10
This tops the list of my favorite tracks from this album or maybe even in their entire discography. From the opening piano to Harry Styles singing the first line to the exchanging of lines of each members at the final chorus.... I AM IN LOVE. This song doesn't have heavy music production on it. It's just crafted with heartbreakingly-beautiful lyrics, raw vocals and the soothing sound of piano. But I swear this is one of the most beautiful songs they have ever done in their entire career.

The emotional and undisguised vocals that they have showcased in this song perfectly suits the rawness and honesty of its lyrics. It's like they're (Harry Styles especially because he wrote this song) letting us see them figuratively naked, their feelings unguarded. I like the idea of it so much. It's like getting to know a person that even the flaws and the scars they hide will be made known because that's how they want you to see them. It's a risk but I guess when you love someone you don't just show what's on the outside.

I am so in love with the song. PS. I love the Narry harmony on the second chorus. <333

Long Way Down
10/10
I don't know if it's nice to hear this song after listening to If I Could Fly because it definitely didn't do a good job to my heart. Your senti vibes wouldn't just end after track 6 because this song would also rip your already broken heart. Just like If I Could Fly, I think that this track doesn't have much to offer in terms of music production. It's just a mixture of drum beat, piano keys and a strumming of an acoustic guitar on the opening but it's got something that would put a crater on your heart once you listened to it

Some people would think that it's the kind of song that could literally put them to sleep, and bore them to the core. I don't why but I find this song extremely beautiful. I'm just attracted with songs that showcase too much honesty and sincerity.

Never Enough
7.5/10
When I first heard this song I thought that the intro was from a Spotify advertisement but darn it, the annoying jungle book slash lion king sound with finger snapping came from this song. It was annoying because that kind of creepy sound sustains till the end of the song. I guess that it made it quite unique and catchy all at the same time but it just doesn't please my ears that much.

As we all know, annoying songs are meant to be stuck in our heads and i think that this song has that power that would let you click the play button over and over again even if it annoys the hell out of you. The chorus has catchy lyrics but what annoys me again is the screaming part which i guess was Liam's voice. It's a catchy bop and annoying song. It all depends on your view whether you'll like this song or not. I'm in between. PS. I love the sound of the horns.

Olivia
8/10
I feel like this song is meant for a musical film or even in a broadway. It's the kind of feel good song that would make you snap your fingers, spin around a garden filled with sunflowers and daisies and sway to the most random dance moves (especially on the interlude before the bridge).

I love how they sang halavuyohalavuyohalavuyohalavhalav olivia. It's really like saying "I love you".

What A Feeling
9.5/10
They have once again deviated from their same old sound and i love it. Adding some new touch in the album with this track is one of the greatest creative move they've ever done. To be quite honest, this song is just another proof of the diversity MITAM has to offer not only to the fans but also the non-listeners out there.

The song actually has a strong backbeat and layered harmonizing in the chorus that gives it a distinctive 90s boyband flair. It's a nostalgic kind of song that has the twist of Jonas Brothers' First Time vibes on it. It's a feel good ong, the kind of song you'd probably hear on classy pubs.

Love You Goodbye
9/10
Night Changes 2.0, only it's about saying goodbye to someone you loved. It's so good. I'm just bit bothered about Louis' bridge solo.

This track also made me noticed Niall's vocal improvement. When they were just starting out on XFactor, he used to be that guy who sings the background vocals "oohhs" and "heys". Sometimes he never even get a solo. He just get to sing those words. In this track, Niall is once again on it with the "hey he hey", the only difference is that now he gets to sing this and a solo.

I Want to Write You A Song
8.5/10
So raw, so genuine, so beautiful. My favorite part was Louis' solo. I've never been so in love with a Louis solo before until this song happens. I feel like Louis' vocals perfectly suits this kind of song. His voice cracks are so beautiful.

History
8.5/10
I can describe this song as the catchy folky fan assisted song off the album. This song definitely gave me too much feels. This will be their last album before they take their 2 year long hiatus. It's gonna be sad but this song gave me an assurance that this is not the end. Also, i love Louis' solo here. It was on the bridge. The lyrics and his voice literally gave me chills. I am not lying.

Temporary Fix
7/10
I've heard rumors that this song is going to be very sensual so I expected it to have some serious sensual vibes on it. I was a bit disappointed when I first heard it because it sounded like their usual tunes. It's a mixture of No Control and Girl Almighty with a touch of their version of One Way or Another's chorus. The only difference i think is that its lyrics are on full explicity.

Did I mention that this song was written by Niall Horan. Niall, that innocent looking church boy. I always knew that Niall has this inner wild side. ;)

Walking in the Wind
7.5/10
This song has the Ready to Run vibes especially on the chorus part, though this is much more tranquil and smooth. It's a super-cute little bop track that looks back on the best bits of a relationship. It has a nice opening guitar tune that sustains till the chorus.

Wolves
7/10
I think that this one of the cutest song they've done next to Olivia. It's not really much. The ooh-ooh-oohs hook, which paired the funky chorus makes the tune a bit infectious. It is definitely an imitation of a wold and I find it really really cute.

A.M.
9/10
I feel like this is one of the most personal songs in this album. I know that some of you would disagree but I think this was written for Zayn Malik. I won't add too much drama about that. I just thought it is about the friendship of the five of them.

It's also a nice campfire song. It's the kind of song that you would most definitely want to hear while roasting mallows, sharing some stories and good laugh at 2:00AM. I love that they chose this to be their last track. The strumming of the guitar in this song is good. The lyrics of the chorus is also the easiest one to remember among the tracks in this album.
