Music Review: BTS amped their bubblegum pop persona with Dynamite's zestful Disco pop production

For the fans who have been here since 2013, this might not be their first comeback single from BTS. But for the quarantine ARMYs, this is! Therefore, this is monumental. Therefore, all other non-BTS related plans must be cancelled asap.

In point of fact, the adjective monumental actually works just the same for their entire legion of fans, as well as BTS themselves. Known for constantly breaking new horizons, this is the septet's first English single which followed the usual EST music releases and will be massively promoted in the US. Although they have released songs with tinge of English lyrics before; some have also done solo and sub-unit English covers and original releases, Dynamite is their first single as a group which is completely written in English.

Just like how the quarantine ARMY's love for BTS was formed, Dynamite is one of the very few good and creative things that was developed during these trying times. Although BTS is widely-known in English-speaking countries, they are firm with their stance of not wanting to lose their identity as musicians by creating English songs. The fact though that they went out of their safe place to explore something that could comfort the world from this terrible and universal situation we're in is really heartwarming and at the same time impressive. As RM said, Dynamite is unexpected, but so is what the entire world is facing right now.

Known for their bops and raps with killer choreography, BTS amped their bubblegum pop persona with Dynamite's zestful Disco pop production. The song started with Jungkook's line, "Cause I'm in the stars tonight so watch me bring the fire and set the night" backed with electro-pop synth which is followed by a mid-deep bass. The funky and soul vibe of the song that would undoubtedly get listeners up from their seat got a bit prominent when the verse transitioned to RM's part.

The chorus part of the song which goes a little bit like the first verse is effortless on its aim to become this year's earworm. It's actually a song that got slip away from the opportunity of becoming this year's summer anthem, but it's still welcomed to be one in any point of a decade. The brigde part is not as promising as what some people may have expected it to be. However, the light and playful vibes of what the Dynamite reprise at the mid-end of the song radiates is a fulfillment of their promise that this song is really all about just having FUN.

Along with the song, BTS also dropped the official music video of Dynamite at the same date and time. Visually speaking, it is indeed aesthetically pleasing. It features members singing in different settings — an 80s bedroom, a vinyl record store, a cafe restaurant, an urban road, a basketball court  while effortlessly delivering killer Disco moves across technicolor and pastel backdrops. The wardrobe of the members was also hard to forget as it seems to be an evolution of boyband fashion from 80s to early 20s.

On July 26, BTS mentioned
in their V Live that they are planning to release an album in the second  half of the year. With the chart success that Dynamite is aiming for and its overall music production, it seems that the forthcoming BTS album, which they have the full creative freedom on, will be this year's banger.
