To be quite honest, I'm actually losing my track on the pop rock/pop punk music fad. I noticed that these days I'm listening more into indie-pop music, which I don't regret much because these genre just gives me the chill vibes I deserve. I'm not gonna lie though, listening to Simple Plan again (bc of their new album) made miss my old guilty pleasure genre.
Pop rock/pop punk actually brings me back to my good old high school days (and a little to my elementary days). I mean, All Time Low? New Found Glory? Paramore? The All American Rejects? Yellowcard? Tonight Alive? We Are The In Crowd? Boys Like Girls? We The Kings? what else? These are the bands that I got in replay on my music player when I was a bit younger. These are few of my favorite bands growing up. These are the bands you'll be shocked to know I'm listening to because for all you know I'm only listening to pop music. Well then guess again. Of course, Disney pop used to be my guilty pleasure (I mean hello? childhood?) but I swear pop rock/pop punk was one of my favorite genres back in the days. Sad though because the only pop rock band left that I still keep myself up to date with is All Time Low.
Moving on, Simple Plan had me again with their new album, Taking One For The Team!!!!!! Such a fetus album. Opinion Overload is actually my current guilty pleasure, as well as P.S. I Hate You. I love Taking One For The Team so so so much. It's such a blessing to my kid at heart self. Their last album, Get Your Heart On! was really nice too. I like it. But it just wasn't the Simple Plan that I knew. The album does not have that teen angst that they were known for. It was too pop. And although the songs in that album were pop, they weren't cutting in. The songs were pretty old, style-wise, not what teenagers today would listen to. (lol I listen to it anyway bc SIMPLE PLAN!!!)
But at last, this was the Simple Plan that I like even more!!! This is what they should sound like. This is what they are known for. They need not to conform to the music trends because I like them this way.
Okay, going back to pop music. If we're being honest here, I do not like Ariana Grande but that doesn't mean I won't recognize her talent. She just released a new song (Dangerous Woman) for her third album and holy crap her A Capella version of it was really really impressive!!! Those pipes were on point! No background vocals, no auto tune - just pure talent.
Although sometimes I find her voice a bit airy and her diction quite unpolished (leaving her lyrics incomprehensible at some points), I can say that this girl can sing!!! She, Demi Lovato and Tori Kelly are actually the holy trinity of this generation.
New albums were released last week from ZAYN, Birdy, and AURORA. I haven't immersed myself that much into ZAYN's new album but when I do get a time to listen to it fully, I'll make a review on it. I'm currently listening to Birdy's Beautiful Lies (Deluxe), and once I finished it, I'm going to make a review. I heard few tracks from Alessia Cara and AURORA's new album. I'll try to download these later (?) bc I can't Spotify right now #nophoneprobs.
PS. Nick Jonas released a new song with Tove Lo. You wouldn't want to miss it so I attached the link of the video in this post (see below). Not gonna lie but Tove and Nick looked so hot in the vid. The song itself is not quite my type. I love Nick Jonas' music while he was still in Nick Jonas and the Administration and of course The Jonas Brothers, but if this is the kind of music he wants to make then go! He's doing good at it anyway. With regard to the music video, the last part reminded me of Shia LaBeouf and Maddie Ziegler in Sia's Elastic Heart music video.
